Ojos de Buey

Ojos de Buey is an archive dedicated to documentary photography made in Spain in the last fifty years; a series of periodicals, each focusing on a particular work by a male or female photographer.

Based on this collection, the archive aims to highlight the country’s intrahistory, culture and counterculture and disseminate the work of authors who have portrayed its various social realities, offering testimonies of the everyday as well as the exceptional. The set of these documentary projects exposes the singularities of a history and a culture that in their complexity also challenge specific lives.

Documentary photography presents the possibility of seeing ourselves through other people’s eyes, of talking to us about collective identity at the same time as our own. Ojos de Buey was born with the aim of creating a space so that these have the ability to endure over time.

Ojos de Buey belongs to Janus Books, a publishing house and bookstore specializing in photography, art and counterculture
