In the face of the linear, accelerated and capitalized time of the present, in the last decades a great number of artists have tried to explore alternative modalities of temporal experience: interruptions, delays, alterations, jumps, discontinuities, desynchronizations… The essays in this book modulate this thesis through a series of questions that are fundamental to understanding the art and visual culture of the last two decades, such as the critical power of obsolescence and the return of materiality, the art of history and its questioning of temporal linearity, anachronism and heterochrony, or migratory aesthetics. All of this is crossed by the conviction that art, today more than ever, is configured as a unique space to try out critical and different ways of remembering the past, inhabiting the present and imagining the future.
