When Cuban José Esteban Muñoz first published this book in 2009, the LGTBIQ political imagination was eroded by a suffocating pragmatism. Demands for the right to equal marriage, for access to tax benefits for spouses, and for the possibility of adopting and forming a family along the lines of the heterosexual family expressed a pervasive desire for inclusion in a system that was no longer sought to be altered.
