This publication undertakes the broadest review of current artistic practices in Ecuador. The project analyzes emblematic works that stand out for their thematic orientation and for the nature of their formal and conceptual contributions, while illuminating the cultural, social or political context at the time of their appearance. The selection and the texts in this first volume were made by curators and art historians who experienced these processes up close, and who with their views contributed to building the nascent contemporary art scene in the country. This book shows the diversity and creative power of the almost unknown artistic production of Ecuador, which places it, for the first time, as a focus of great interest and uniqueness in the region.
