Whether here or elsewhere, how do we embrace a place we love? This is the question Kamil Zihnioglu has been asking himself as he has travelled the length and breadth of Corsica, meeting its inhabitants, for almost six years now. A press photographer based in Paris, he decided in October 2020 to leave the city and make his home on the island. Thus began an impossible quest: to capture in images the identity of this land and those who inhabit it. Like a mirror, the waters of the Mediterranean reflected his own face. “Who are you?” they seemed to ask him. Setting aside his journalistic approach, he was able to embark on a new journey with no destination: the exploration of the feelings this island evokes. Far from the expected clichés, he seeks out subtle traces to redraw an intimate and poetic map of Corsica. Intraccià is the fruit of this wandering, this love and this inexplicable sense of belonging to a land that is not his own.
