In Umbigo #76 edition the exhibition Afropolitanos, curated by António Pinto Ribeiro, is this issue’s core feature. The term was coined in 2005 by Taiye Selasi, defining the Afropolitan as someone who has an urban and African identity and sensibility. This led Pinto Ribeiro to choose Otobong Nkanga, Francisco Vidal, John K.Cobra, Dalila Dalléas Bouzar and Eugénia Mussa as artists who work through African memory absorbed from their family predecessors, giving them a new identity through their art.
