La performatividad de las imágenes, Andrea Soto Calderón
We are happy to share with you the publication La performatividad de las imágenes, by Andrea Soto Calderón, collaborator at ArtsLibris and director of the International Seminar. Her new book, published by Metales Pesados, reflects on the constructive, rather than merely illustrative, power of images, as well as the possibilities of articulating affirmative modes of resistance against hegemonic systems through the means of visual expression.
“While it is true that the current circulation of images is oriented towards the consumption of objects rather than towards the construction of gazes, this does not mean that they are not artifacts with speculative, poetic and political power. According the author, it is through these instants of fragile interruption where the sublevation of forms can take place”.
ArtsLibris is firmly committed with the articulation of decolonial and feminist critique, as well as with Latin American cultural production. We are proud to count Metales Pesados, a leading publishing house in art and critical thinking, amongst our network of publishers.
