A story about a breeding ground of young talent on the edge of the city. A space where talent could develop and be showcased. An old factory where young people were given the freedom—and the responsibility—to build a distinctive operation of their own.
Eric Bouwens, Peter Daems, and Katrijn Sermeus came together with the ambition to write down and share this remarkable story of Het Lintfabriek. Since 2019, they have been working on organizing the archive, gathering information and anecdotes, and refining its history. This search unfolded entirely in line with the dynamics of a free space: somewhat directionless, with a multitude of opinions and discussions—sometimes emotional, but above all filled with understanding, love, and passion.
Please note: this book is (spoiler) not the definitive story. Given the continuous flow of personal and meaningful anecdotes, it simply cannot be. What the book does aim to capture is the feeling of a shared past and a shared spirit of the times. At the same time, it serves as an invitation to continue the conversation—a conversation about the many international bands that stopped in Kontich during their European tours, the different subcultures that found a home there, first loves, first experiences as volunteers, the first concert on stage and in front of it…
