Fiel a su formaci\u00f3n autodidacta, David Wojnarowicz desafi\u00f3 las fronteras entre lenguajes, medios y acciones, y escap\u00f3 de las definiciones un\u00edvocas: fue pintor, m\u00fasico, fot\u00f3grafo, escritor, realizador de pel\u00edculas en Super 8 y protagonista decisivo del efervescente entorno social y cultural del East Village de Nueva York en los a\u00f1os ochenta. De su obra visceral sobresale su esp\u00edritu colaborativo \u2013en comuni\u00f3n fluida con otros\u2013, pero tambi\u00e9n contestatario. Miembro del colectivo act-up, Wojnarowicz fue un activista muy involucrado con las pol\u00edticas identitarias de los homosexuales antes y durante la epidemia del sida, enfermedad que lo priv\u00f3 de amistades y amores y que se lo llev\u00f3 incluso a \u00e9l en 1992, a los 37 a\u00f1os. En su trayectoria, arte y militancia estaban en permanente di\u00e1logo y reinvenci\u00f3n, y ambos deb\u00edan ganar la calle para circular por fuera del corset de las instituciones tradicionales, ocupando espacios que no les estaban destinados.<\/p>\n

Pocos artistas lograron capturar el caos emocional, sexual y pol\u00edtico de la vida urbana moderna de una manera tan perceptiva como Wojnarowicz. \u201cLas ventanas son mi televisi\u00f3n y las calles mi peri\u00f3dico\u201d, dice en estos diarios \u00edntimos, que comienza a escribir a los 17 a\u00f1os y que contin\u00faa hasta su muerte. En ellos asistimos a su d\u00eda a d\u00eda, a sus viajes improvisados, al fluir desencajado de sus pensamientos y sensaciones. Pese a haber tenido una infancia muy dura, y a haber vivido en la precariedad absoluta los peores a\u00f1os de la administraci\u00f3n de Reagan, Wojnarowicz nunca dej\u00f3 de capturar destellos de belleza, aunque fueran el reverso de una soledad profunda y de una inseguridad recurrente. Inspirado en Burroughs y Genet, pero tambi\u00e9n en el ambiente de la no wave, el postpunk y las drogas qu\u00edmicas, deambulaba por las calles y embarcaderos abandonados de las m\u00e1rgenes del r\u00edo Hudson, prostituy\u00e9ndose e integrando comunidades fugaces. En este libro aparece la trastienda de los escenarios que son los protagonistas de sus obras m\u00e1s famosas, y est\u00e1 presente el constante registro de su cuerpo, que se agudiza cuando recibe su diagn\u00f3stico de vih positivo. Es consciente de haberse contagiado un virus que encarna adem\u00e1s lo peor de una sociedad enferma; una que margina y excluye cada vez m\u00e1s a las disidencias y las abandona a su suerte.
