This publication undertakes the most comprehensive review of current artistic practices in Ecuador. The project analyses emblematic works that stand out for their thematic orientation and the nature of their formal and conceptual contributions, while illuminating the cultural, social or political context of the moment of their appearance. The selection and texts in this first volume were written by curators and art historians who experienced these processes at first hand and whose insights contributed to the construction of the country’s nascent contemporary art scene. This book shows the diversity and creative power of Ecuador’s almost unknown artistic production, making it, for the first time, a focus of great interest and uniqueness in the region.
