The need to incorporate images into texts is a practice that goes back to the earliest books ever made. Drawings in manuscripts, as well as woodcuts, chalcographic engravings and photographs not only serve to illustrate works, but indeed complete them, allowing us to marvel at their harmony.
In most books the illustrations are not merely a visual identification of the scenes described, but rather become part of the work, recreating it and putting forward an alternative reading thereof which forces us to go back and look at the pages again. After finishing reading, the silence of the image is posited as a missing piece that makes the text complete.
